Math
This year, we are piloting a new math series: Engage New York. This math curriculum include 7 modules.
These modules were designed to meet the Common Core Standards in a logical progression. The lessons focus on mathematical reasoning, practice, and reflection. On nights that students have homework from the Engage New York math series, they should also bring home a completed Problem Set that can be used as a guide for the homework. Also, the links at the bottom of this page will take you to some sites that can provide home support for this curriculum.
MATH FACTS & TIMED TESTS
The State of Michigan expects third graders to be fluent with multiplication facts through 10 x 10 by the end of the school year. Students will be completing daily practice sessions and timed math tests through an online site called XtraMath. All students will begin with addition facts and then progress through subtraction and multiplication. If students master multiplication, they will move onto division as a challenge.
Please encourage your child to practice at home 5-10 minutes for at least 5 days a week. Practicing math facts several times a week, for short periods of time is the best. Keep practice sessions brief, but frequent! One proven way for kids to learn their multiplication facts is to skip count. This is something you can practice at home. Math facts practice sheets can be found on the Homework page of my website and there is a link to XtraMath at the bottom of this page for students who want to practice at home.
- Module 1: Properties of Multiplication and Division and Solving Problems with Units of 2–5 and 10
- Module 2: Place Value and Problem Solving with Units of Measure

- Module 4: Multiplication and Area
- Module 5: Fractions as Numbers on the Number Line
- Module 6: Collecting and Displaying Data
- Module 7: Geometry and Measurement Word Problems
